Robotics MOOC

space robots

Robotics is increasingly important in spaceflight and space exploration. For example, hazardous maneuvers or cosmic radiation exposed areas are perfect for robots. Spaceships, space probes, landers, rovers… Robotics is everywhere in space ! If you aim to work in the space sector, robotics is and will be a must.

These courses are free if you only want to read the content of the courses and to watch the videos. You will have to pay a few dollars if you want to access all of the courses, including rating homework, and to have an official certificate to print or to share (on LinkedIn for example).

MOOC #1 Robotics by the University of Pennsylvania

This almost 130 hours MOOC introduces concepts about robot movement and flight, how they perceive their environment, how they modify their movements to avoid obstacles or manage difficult terrains. This MOOC also give examples of what they are useful for now and what they will be in the future. At the end of the MOOC, you will also learn how to program a robot !

The professors who created this Robotics MOOC are from the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Pennsylvania.

MOOC #2 Modern robotics by the Nortwestern University

Analysis, planning and control of robot motion are some of the great things you will learn to do in this almost 100 hours MOOC ! You will learn the mathematics of robotics and how to write robotics software. You will be able to test your software on a robot simulator. At the end of the Modern robotics MOOC, you will have a real robot programming experience, without purchasing expensive robot hardware.

The professor of this Modern robotics MOOC is Kevin Lynch, Mechanical Engineering Professor at the Nortwestern University.
