Astronomy Technology MOOC by The University of Edinburgh

Technology and modern astronomy are deeply connected. Most of the biggest discoveries are made thanks to technological advances. Thanks to modern technology, we are able to look at galaxies located at the edge of the universe, to demonstrate that the universe is expanding, to study how stars burn, to image a black hole, and much more.

This 8 hours MOOC details how technological advances helped to make the most astonishing discoveries in modern astronomy. You will learn how the most important technologies work and how to interpret the data collected in order to make new discoveries. You will be able to understand what technologies are involved in an astronomical discovery beyond the shallow news you watch on TV !

The professors of this Astronomy Technology MOOC are Andy Lawrence and Catherine Heymans, Physics and Astronomy, at The University of Edinburgh. This course is free if you only want to read the content of the course and to watch the videos. You will have to pay a few dollars if you want to access all of the course, including rating homework, and to have an official certificate to print or to share (on LinkedIn for example).
